The Warm Guns - A Public Relations Mystery

I don't know who's responsible for this. I submitted the show info to Philadelphia Weekly, but this is not quite what I submitted. I'm trying to find out who's behind this, but whatever the answer may be, this is nice:

http://www.philadelphiaweekly.com/events/122898536.html

Remember to see The Warm Guns this coming Wednesday, and tune in to Volta Radio before you do! (See my previous blog entry if that last sentence doesn't make sense to you.)

In other news, I may or may not be doing Philly promo for one or two other out-of-town acts in the very near future. Either I've found an exciting new direction or this field really is pushing me out. I should know soon.

The Warm Guns on Volta Radio!

Remember how last May, you heard The Josh and Pete Band, Bad Apples, and The Escape on Volta Radio? And how Cindy did an awesome job of interviewing these bands and spotlighting their music? Well...

The Warm Guns are getting the Volta treatment!

Tune in on Wednesday, June 22nd for a special 3 PM show! http://www.voltaradio.com

And remember to see The Warm Guns in person that night at Roosevelt's, 23rd and Walnut Streets here in Philadelphia. It's part of the new music series in Roosie's Room VII. 8 PM!

Happiness is The Warm Guns!

The Warm Guns are an indie roots-rock band from Austin, Texas who are currently touring in support of their brand-new debut album, Something In The Night. The band is fronted by singer/songwriter Ricky Stein, who previously recorded and toured under his own name. I am promoting The Warm Guns in Philadelphia to coincide with an intimate show they will be doing in Room VII at Roosevelt's, 23rd and Walnut Streets here in Philly, on June 22nd. Show details to come, but meanwhile, check out The Warm Guns:

and check out Ricky Stein's previous work:

And remember: don't mess with Texas!

It's over for now.

Well, folks, the unthinkable has happened: I am on an indefinite hiatus as The Josh and Pete Band's publicist. There's no need to go into the details here and now except to say that it's a simple matter of economics and logistics. In other words, nothing personal -- just business.

But let me be quite frank. If you've been following this blog, you know that I've been on a decline as a music publicist since last July. And if you want to know more about that, look at previous blog entries.

I like this field, but I also realize that it's pushing me out. I need to move on. That doesn't necessarily mean I'm leaving this field entirely; it just means I need to go into something else now.

That said: STAY TUNED! I still have at least one project left as a music publicist! I will be making the formal announcement later this week.

A new project is coming....

It does not pertain to The Josh and Pete Band. Or anyone I've previously worked with.
It does not pertain to a Philly artist or band.
It does pertain to the Philly market.
It requires me not to mess with Texas.
It will officially get underway in late May. You'll get the details then.

I'm back, they're gone.

My "necessary hiatus" is no longer necessary -- therefore, it's over. PR for The Josh and Pete Band will probably remain in housekeeping mode until June, however. That is to say, I've returned to my post as their publicist and will keep looking out for them in that capacity, but I probably won't be running any new campaigns or writing new press releases until the recording sessions for their first album have commenced. I do have some intriguing potential leads for new clients and projects, but nothing official just yet. Still, it feels good to be out of my hiatus.

But for every new beginning, there is an ending.....right? Well, maybe not, but in case you haven't heard the news --

(brace yourself)

Downtown Harvest broke up.

(GASP!)

I know, it sucks. One of my favorite bands, and the first act I ever represented as a publicist, and now it's all just a memory.

On the plus side, at least they broke up while they were still good.

Check below if you came here looking for in-depth info about my PR work. Thanks.

The list so far - revised.

I posted this back in December, but it now needs to be revised - and besides, it's a good lead post during my necessary hiatus (which I will grow weary of soon enough, but let's hope it doesn't have to last too long). This is a comprehensive rundown, for those interested in or curious about my services, of whom I've represented and where I've gotten them featured. Either you've heard of these artists, bands, and media outlets or you haven't. And for that matter, either they're still active or they aren't. But as always, if you have any questions, you can leave me a comment or click through to my profile to send me an e-mail.

Artists and bands I've represented:

Downtown Harvest - rock, funk, jazz, hip-hop, electronica
Audible Eye (Gregory Morgan) - rock, funk, folk
Laura Cheadle - pop, soul
The Absolute Zeros - rock, soul, blues
The Josh and Pete Band - pop, rock, comedy
Bad Apples - funk, jazz
Reality Stricken/The Escape - rock

Artists and bands I've formally assisted:

The Guggenheim Grotto - folk, pop, rock

Press/webzines/blogs I've gotten these acts featured in:

Origivation
Underwater Explosions
Phrequency
Wonka Vision
Philly2Philly.com
Metro (Philadelphia edition)
Philadelphia Weekly
Philly EDGE
The Broken Bell
Cheap Shot! Philly
Crunkbox
Perfect Porridge
MusicReviewer.com
The Weekender (Northeast PA)

Other media outlets I've gotten these acts featured in/on:

WXPN (My Morning Download; The Key/Philly Local Philes)
Volta Radio (Volta Unveiled)
Bits and Watts
Philly Fun Guide
Philly Music Network Fans

As you can see, the Philly market is my specialty, but I have promoted beyond Philly at times.

Hiatus

I just looked at this blog and realized I haven't posted in over a month.

There's little to report, really. The Josh and Pete Band have suspended PR for the time being. I haven't picked up any new clients, although I have been in talks with prospective clients. But this lack of activity is all for the best, as I currently have some personal matters to take care of and they are of the utmost importance right now.

So I'm on hiatus as a music publicist. I'll let you know when I'm back up and running.

Feeling sorry that you missed the performance of "Dances In High Heels" described in the article? Well, here it is!

Oh, and I had NOTHING to do with this, but I would be remiss if I didn't also point out the excellent interview in this issue with our old friends The Absolute Zeros:

Woo-hoo.

A Short (But Exciting) Month for The Josh and Pete Band

[The official press release.]

February might be the shortest month of the year, but Josh Band, Pete Band, King Alon, and Dr. Lemonade will be making the most of it!

AT LONG LAST, ORIGIVATION

It was supposed to happen in December. Then it got delayed. Now it's finally happening: The Josh and Pete Band will be featured in Origivation's February issue! And what better company could the guys have asked for? Cake will be on the cover! And The Absolute Zeros, early supporters of The Josh and Pete Band, will also be featured! If print copies disappear as quickly as they are expected to, look for the online edition at http://www.origivation.com. Both are expected to be released this Friday.

BE DR. LEMONADE'S VALENTINE

Those who have donated to the band's album fund will get their prizes in time for Valentine's Day. Because The Josh and Pete Band love their fans. And money.

TURN ON, THEN TUNE IN

Radio continues to deem The Josh and Pete Band's demo EP too good for a mere demo. Having already been embraced by Philly's own Volta Radio and a little station called WXPN (ahem), radio stations in other parts of the country are taking notice. Ohio's ruKus radio has proven once more that The Josh and Pete Band have a home on independent radio, while California's Jelly Bean Radio (whose Captain Jelly Bean has featured "The Captain Song"!) demonstrates that The Josh and Pete Band can provide ample entertainment for the kids. When they're not singing about sex.

R.I.P. JOSH BAND?

Finally, a rumor which must be put to rest. The internet was all ablaze after Pete Band announced that his brother Josh had died in a horrible table tennis accident. Pete even claimed to have released a recording of "Strawberry Fields Forever" in which he seems to say "Cranberry sauce" but actually says "I buried Josh." But never fear: Josh Band is alive and well and living in a house somewhere. Turns out Pete was just joshing.

But in all seriousness, March and April will most likely have big news as well, so please stay tuned! And as always, thank you for reading.
