Archival Dani Mari Bio; current and future works

This has recently been replaced as it is outdated, but I've gotten too much mileage out of it to let it disappear for good, so here is the bio I wrote for Dani Mari in 2011 when I was her publicist:

“Philadelphia-based singer/songwriter” – how many flash-in-the-pan artists’ bios have begun with those very words? Never fear: Dani Mari will not be joining their ranks. For starters, her music is too distinctive; folk-rock at its core, but characterized by a keen pop sensibility and delivered in a jazzy style by a classically-trained vocalist. Dani Mari’s clever melodies and intelligent lyrics reflect her dedication to a serious music career which has seen her play at the Tin Angel, World Café Live, and The Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, The Bitter End, Piano's and Caffe Vivaldi in New York City, and at SXSW in Austin. She’s performed with acts such as Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Mates of State, Of Montreal, Jeffrey Gaines and John Francis. But even with all these laurels, Dani Mari’s greatest triumph is her music. Listen to her single “Vampire” and her album Impulsive. Watch her videos for “Vamipre” and “After You,” the lead track off Impulsive. And if she’s playing near you, see her live trio, completed by bassist Topher Davis-Shannon and percussionist Verien Brotzman. Learn for yourself what a “Philadelphia-based singer/songwriter” can really do.

Angel Ocana's current bio is based on a piece I wrote: http://www.facebook.com/angelocanamusic/info [link and description updated 11/20/14]

The aforementioned Christopher (Topher) Davis-Shannon's bio is also based on a piece I wrote (under "About"): http://cdavisshannon.com/

Also, I recently wrote a solo bio for Am Williams of da(Y)ma -- look for it when she puts her solo package together!

I am always available to write bio's, press releases, and promotional blurbs for musicians, so contact me if you're interested.

What can I write for you?

Almost a year ago, I gave up the legwork of PR (as in promoting to the media, maintaining relations with the media, mingling with concertgoers and the venues' personnel, etc.). But I never gave up writing the kinds of things I wrote as a music publicist, and recently I've written a few new pieces.

Reverend TJ McGlinchey bio: http://www.revtj.com/about.html

(I also wrote a Reverend TJ McGlinchey blurb, which was published briefly but subsequently replaced with the full bio. If the blurb is ever published again, I will provide a link to it).

And this is a press release I've written for the Damien Anthony Band. Damien can do whatever he wants with it, but this is the press release as I wrote it:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 1, 2012

Damien Anthony Band’s “Making The Album” Show Coming November 3rd

The Damien Anthony Band is one of the most dynamic groups to hit the Philly music scene in recent years. Damien Anthony is not simply an intelligent singer/songwriter, a raw rocker, a soul man, or a funk master; he is all of these things at once. His instantly identifiable voice and amiable stage presence, combined with the entire band’s excellent musicianship, have made for numerous successful performances at local venues including Downstairs at World Café Live in Philadelphia. The group’s many fans have been waiting for an album and now, their wait is coming to an end. Not only that, a lucky few will have a chance to hear the album as it is being recorded.

On Saturday, November 3rd, the Damien Anthony Band will present a “Making The Album” show at Studio Crash in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia. Only 20 attendees will be able to witness this historic occasion. As Damien is known for singing, “Do you want this?”

Show details:

My first show!

It took all the time since my last post to book and confirm, but I did it!

If you're scratching your head after reading that...you must not have any booking experience.

Follow me to my new blog for details on my first show:

Retired at 30.

It's been a while since I've posted! Well, if you've been following this blog, you know that my fortunes as a music publicist decreased dramatically for quite some time. Even with a seeming upswing in August, the waters proved rough. There were fewer viable media outlets to promote to in the Philly market, and the ones remaining were tough-to-impossible to get into. Even people I used to be able to count on in the media had more demands on their time and were less accessible.

Moreover, I was just sick of being a music publicist! I won't go into the reasons publicly, but suffice it to say that if I no longer loved this field and it no longer loved me, I needed to get out when I had a chance. That chance was coming at the end of November, so I announced my retirement that month.

I'm moving into concert booking and promotion. My first show will take place March 20th at a new venue called HeadHouse (122 Lombard St, Philadelphia) and it will be a HYPE! show, meaning I am booking it for my good friend Boy Wonder. Artist lineup and details coming.

I may also return to music blogging, but not with a "One Note Ahead" type of blog. We'll see...

All things considered, I had a good run as a music publicist. And when I hear The Really Cooks (formerly The Josh and Pete Band) on XPN2, played by deejays I hooked them up with, or look at Dani Mari's Facebook page and see the artist bio I wrote, I am very proud of my legacy.

Stay tuned...I am up for new adventures.

Mojoceratops on Volta Radio: 10/18

The Mojoceratops campaign is gradually gaining traction. I've gotten a few important people's attention, at least. :-)

And we've got a radio interview! Tune in to Volta Radio on Tuesday, October 18th, at 7:30 PM (EDT) to hear Mojoceratops and some tracks from their debut album, Dino Dance Party -- which, let me remind you, is available on iTunes.

And by the way, this radio appearance is timed to promote their show on Friday the 21st at Lickety Split, 4th and South Streets in Philadelphia. Come on out and join the dino dance party.

Mojoceratops news! And a farewell of sorts...

Mojoceratops' debut album, Dino Dance Party, is now available on iTunes! You know what that means....we've gotta do some PR for it. And you know what THAT means.....my September slump has officially been broken!

I honestly do consider Dino Dance Party a strong album, and a remarkably accomplished one for a new band, so pick up a copy and get the party started! Also remember http://www.mojoceratops.net for more info on the band. If you have a chance to see them in person, do so!

In other news, even though these guys are no longer my clients, they were for such a long time that I feel compelled to report this. As of today, The Josh and Pete Band are history....they are now The Really Cooks. And that's just the first of many big developments. http://www.thereallycooks.com

I will miss The Josh and Pete Band. But all good things must come to an end, right?

Stay tuned, as always.

New Dani Mari Bio

While the Mojoceratops project continues to brew (we HAVE been working on it, just behind the scenes so far), things are moving forward with Dani Mari. Here is the new bio I've written for her:

Of course, she's using this for more than just ReverbNation, but this is a good isolated copy of it.

Stay tuned!

And now, presenting Dani Mari!

Well, I am comin' back up in the world of music PR! After being approached by Mojoceratops and working out a deal with them, I was then approached by Philly-based singer/songwriter Dani Mari. If you know me well enough, you've heard me talk about her plenty already but now that I'm her publicist, you're gonna hear me talk about her a lot more!

I'll share more about her (and my work for her) in due time, but right now, check out her music: http://www.reverbnation.com/danimari

And trust me when I say that being Dani Mari's publicist is gonna be really DIFFERENT. In good ways, I predict.

The Mojoceratops project will officially get underway before long, don't worry.....

Watch this space for more news!

The way to go/New clients

If you've been reading this blog lately, you know that I've been feeling like music PR has been pushing me out. The trials and tribulations of the past several months, brightened only by occasional rays of hope, really got me rethinking this career path and considering new directions in the music business and in life in general. I kept coming to the conclusion that I am a music publicist, dammit -- that's what I know how to do and what I feel I should be doing at this point. It's definitely not the only thing I should be doing with my life, work-wise or otherwise, but it is a niche I should remain in.

Not coincidentally, once I came to this conclusion, things started to look more promising for me as a music publicist than they had looked in a long time. I am in talks with a few artists I've known for a while, but as always, mum's the word until everything is official. In the meantime, I have a new band on my client roster!

I literally have a NEW band on my client roster. Mojoceratops played their first gig not even four months ago! My campaigning will officially get underway in the coming weeks, which should give you enough time to buy a new pair of dancin' shoes and re-learn the art of getting your groove on. By the way, their bass player BJ Felsted used to play in Bad Apples. Yes, my former clients Bad Apples! Small world, huh?

Check out Mojoceratops: http://www.mojoceratops.net/

And stay tuned for updates.
